White Sulphur Springs-Cleda Joyce Steele, 74, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at the White Sulphur Springs Family Care Center.
Born Feb. 14, 1941, in White Sulphur Springs, she was a daughter of the late Rosco and Myrtle Fifer Steele.
Cleda was of the Methodist Faith. She and her mother, Myrtle Steele were the first two patients to enter White Sulphur Springs Family Care Center when it was new in the 1990’s. She loved babies, candy kisses, coffee, and her cakes. She also loved yogurt and had some every night. Cleda called her niece Joyce “Mommy” and her nephew Palmer, “Daddy” and talked for 5 to 10 minutes every night. An aide at the Care Center dialed the phone numbers because she couldn’t dial them. Even though she couldn’t dial them she thought to make the calls nightly.
Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Dolin.
Survivors include: niece Joyce Dolin of Alvon; three nephews, Palmer (Jr.) Dolin of Alvon, Edward Dolin of Arlington, VA and David Dolin of Union; two great-nephews, Patrick Dolin of Charleston and “Little” Eddie Dolin of Arlington, VA; two great-nieces, Lucy Dolin of North Carolina and Stephanie Smiley (Walter) of Fredericksburg, VA, and their two children, Kayla and Little Walter.
Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home where Rev. Bobby McClintic and Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiated. Burial followed in the Whatcoat Methodist Cemetery at Mapledale.
A special thanks goes to the doctors, nurses, workers and patients at the nursing home. She loved each one as a friend and considered them family.
