-Carolyn B. Bonds, 73, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2023, at Coastal Hospice at The Lake in Salisbury, MD.
She was born Feb. 26, 1950, in White Sulphur Springs, the daughter of the late Homer M. and Hazel M. Brown.
Carolyn was a proud graduate of Marshall University, the first black person to graduate from the Communications Department with a degree in Speech Therapy. Carolyn began her career in 1973 as the only speech therapist in Greenbrier County Schools. During her career with the county, she went on to further her education by earning two Master’s degrees. She retired after 39 years of service in June 2012.
Carolyn was an active member of her community. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs and served as a member of the Retired Teacher Association. She was also an avid sports fan, known as a big supporter of Marshall University Athletics and the Denver Broncos. Carolyn was what some would consider a horticulturist because of her love of her yards.
