Carnegie Hall presents fine and foreign films at The Lewis Theatre on Court Street in downtown Lewisburg every second Monday during the months of March, April and May. The cost per film is $8 at the door or $21 for the three-film subscription. Opening the 2016 spring series on Monday, Mar. 14, at 7 p.m. is “Trumbo.”
In 1947, Dalton Trumbo was Hollywood’s top screenwriter until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs. “Trumbo,” directed by Jay Roach, recounts how Trumbo used words and wit to win two Academy Awards and expose the absurdity and injustice of the blacklist, which entangled everyone from gossip columnist Hedda Hopper to John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger. The film stars Bryan Cranston, Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, John Goodman, Louis C.K., Elle Fanning, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
