CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center wants to show off its Christmas gift to the public. A robot was installed the last week of December to assist surgeons in GVMC’s growing orthopedic service. The public is invited to “meet” the robot and help the medical center name it.
The robot will be on display in the cafeteria at CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, 1320 Maplewood Ave., Ronceverte, from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The winning name will be announced Jan. 15.
The robot features the latest technology including a smart mapping system to register 3D models of the joint in surgery, real-time planning for personalized surgery, handheld precision milling and intra-operative gap balancing.
New orthopedic surgeon, Douglas Tice, MD, will use the robot to perform hip, knee and shoulder replacements, hand surgery and more to patients of all ages.
Dr. Tice is board certified. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at West Virginia University.
