Michael Bryant (left) of Buchanan, program head of the Welding Technology Program at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, was recognized as DSLCC’s “Educator of the Year” at an awards ceremony held during the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs. Bryant, who has been with the College for 17 years, is a Certified Welding Inspector with the American Welding Society. He has served as a coordinator for the regional SkillsUSA welding competition on multiple occasions and has judged at the regional and state levels. Before joining the staff at DSLCC, he was owner-operator of Earle S. Bryant Welding Service in Troutville. He serves on the Welding Advisory Committees for both Jackson River Technical Center in Alleghany County and Botetourt Technical Educational Center in Botetourt County. Bryant, seen here helping student Amearie Kagulire with a welding assignment, is an active member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon and adult teacher.
