Hawk Knob Harvest Festival
set for October 19
On Saturday, Oct. 19, Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider will host their annual Harvest Festival at the Cidery in Lewisburg from 12 noon to 9 p.m. There will be live music by Rambling Dan from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Distant Light from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and the Bing Brothers with Jake Krack from 6 to 8 p.m. Food will be available from Whole Hog BBQ with country sides at $18 per plate. There will also be an apple butter demonstration, apple pressing, and a kids’ fishing derby in the Hawk Knob pond.
Live music at Rupert Public Library
Hidden Mountain Treasures Band will perform at the Rupert Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. Make plans to come join us for lots of fun and food. The line dancers will be in costume to dance the “Monster Mash.”
Williamsburg Shooting Match
Come join us for the Williamsburg Shooting Match that will be held Oct. 19. beginning at 7 p.m. Match will be eight rounds, 12-gauge guns only. Full choke, .660 inch minimum. Screw in chokes must be from a recognized supplier (patented) and extend no more than 3 inches beyond original barrel. Barrel length 34” maximum. First Seven rounds @ $2.50 per shot, eighth round 50/50 @$7.50 per shot. Shooters must compete in the first 7 rounds in order to compete in the 8th round. 50/50 splatter match is $1 per chance between rounds – Cash prizes will be awarded. You do not need to be a shooter to win! Come early! Come Hungry! Delicious hot food and refreshments will be available starting at 5 p.m. Families welcomed; you don’t have to shoot to come get a meal! Alderson Farmers Market
is held each Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. beginning May 7 – Oct. 29. They offer WIC, senior vouchers, carrot club for children, stretch, snap, and they accept credit cards (purchases must be $5 or more).
Fall Festival set for November 3
ClearView Fellowship will host our annual Fall Festival on Nov. 3 from 3 to 6 p.m., in the West Virginia Building at the State Fairgrounds. We are excited to bring this FREE event to our community. Our goal is to provide a fun day for our children and their families. We will offer free haircuts to children through high school, free toboggans, gloves and socks for children, free shoes for children through high school, free food, blow-up games, crafts, face painting – fun for everyone! There will also be various community groups with information on services available. Doors open at 3 p.m.
Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers available
The Greenbrier County Committee on Aging now has vouchers available for the 2024 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
Vouchers are available at the following locations:
- Western Greenbrier Senior Center, 284 Greenbrier Street Rupert 304-392-5138. Monday through Friday 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
- Eastern Greenbrier Senior Center, 150 Taylor Lane Fairlea 304-645-1978. Monday through Friday. 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
Must be at least 60 years of age and meet income guidelines. Bring ID with proof of age.
