U.S. Flag Code on display at T.O.O.T.
The public is invited to learn about the U.S. Flag Code at the L&R Railroad kiosk on Court Street during T.O.O.T., this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The presentation is sponsored by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Andrew Lewis Chapter.
Alderson Pet Celebration New Date
Due to the weather, the Alderson Pet Celebration was postponed until Saturday, Oct. 24, 1-4 p.m. at the Alderson Alumni Park. The event is a fundraiser for the Greenbrier County Humane Society and Animal Shelter and the Alderson Animal Control. Boxes will be out to accept pet food, cat litter and other pet supplies (money is always welcome). There will be contests for best Halloween costume for a cat and dog, best tail wag on a dog and most laid back cat; a raffle; food; $8 rabies clinic; goodies by S&S Feed Store, and at 3 p.m., a blessing of the pets.
Winter clothes at Williamsburg Thrift Shop
Cold weather is approaching rapidly. Visit our thrift shop for warm clothes. Dollar bag sale: All you can put in a plastic grocery bag for $1. Store hours are Fridays, 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The thrift shop will close for the winter on Oct. 31. The thrift shop is operated by the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Lewisburg City Hall will be closed
Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Columbus Day. Greenbrier Valley Solid Waste will operate on their normal schedule, picking up regular trash Monday through Friday.
Greenbrier Recycling
on Monroe Avenue in Ronceverte is currently taking hardback books for recycling. Hardback books must be brought in Monday through Friday during business hours 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are no after hour drop-offs for hardback books at this time.
AHMH’s October/November schedule

Haunted Barn fundraiser
Greenbrier east High School JROTC will hold a Haunted Barn at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds through the month of October. Schedule is as follows: Oct. 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31 each night starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission $5 per person.
Fall activities offered in Alderson
The Alderson Community Center offers activities this fall and winter. Basketball will be available each Wednesday, and Zumba classes will be held each Thursday. Beginning Oct. 12, line dancing will take place on Mondays. People interested in walking may do so on Mondays and Thursdays. All activities are free and open to the public; donations are encouraged. Little League elections

Krazy Kloset Daze
The Wellspring of Greenbrier Inc. will host Krazy Kloset Daze from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following schedule: Oct. 13-15: women and teen girls; Oct. 20-22: men and teen boys. There will be winter clothing and other good items. Low-income families and individuals may apply for clothing on the days of the event, located at the Wellspring Center beside Rupert City Hall.
Halloween disc golf tourney
Register now for the Great Pumpkinhead disc golf tournament to be held on Halloween at Greenbrier State Forest. The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is family friendly with beginner and advanced divisions. Lunch and custom T-shirt included with entry fee. Dog rescue fund drive continues
NWAL Herding Dog Rescue Inc. is still calling for the Shoes for Shelters Program at Tractor Supply, Ronceverte (Monday – Saturday), Wolf Creek Gallery in Alderson (Tuesday – Saturday), Lewisburg Farmers Market in the United Methodist Church parking lot in downtown Lewisburg on Saturday. To date the rescue has collected over 2,000 shoes thanks to the people of Southern West Virginia and have had our first pickup. They will be collecting until Nov. 10, so bring your slightly worn shoes to the drop off centers. NWAL thanks the community for helping our rescue organization, NWAL Herding Dog Rescue, reach their goal of over 2,500 pairs of shoes.
NarAnon meetings
