In spite of gale winds, a couple inches of snow and freezing temperatures, the American Legion Greenbrier Post 26’s Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s of Lewisburg was a complete success! It was an extreme surprise to wake us to so much snow Apr. 9 that you had to shovel the porch to get out. But all workers assembled at Applebee’s of Lewisburg and the customers started to fill the restaurant. Kitchen Manager Georgia Shockley astutely prepared the pancakes while instructing novice volunteer workers how to serve the pancakes and how to operate in the kitchen area. Hot pancakes with warm syrup and butter, plus a sausage patty were happily served by volunteer workers. The hot coffee and other drinks were handed out to grateful customers needing a good breakfast and a warm cup to spark their day.
The members of American Legion Greenbrier Post 26 want to thank everyone who attended the breakfast and supported this fundraiser. Funds raised during the breakfast goes to sponsor young men and young women to attend the Mountaineer Boys State held at Jacksons Mill, and Rhododendron Girls State held at Wheeling Jesuit University during the month of June. Mountaineer Boys State at Jackson Mills will host its 79th continuous year for the American Legion Boys State. Young men from the junior class in high school with a 3.0 grade average are invited to attend the camp. The same is true for the Rhododendron Girls State hosted at Wheeling Jesuit University operated by the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
Again we thank all who attended this important fundraiser and a GREAT BIG thanks for all our volunteer workers. If you want to know more about boy’s state or girl’s state or about the American Legion, please call Commander Burdette at 304-661-4979. Our meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at the Clifford Armory/Ronceverte Recreational Center beginning at 6 p.m. Guests are always welcome!
