Lewisburg Elementary Principal, Leann Piercy-McMillion and Assistant Principal, Melandee Heaster, took the opportunity to teach students about community service by partaking in the ALS Ice Water Challenge. Before the water was poured, Heaster explained the importance of understanding a charity challenge when it goes viral on the internet and challenged students to find out who Lou Gehrig was and how debilitating ALS can be. She also discussed the importance of doing community service and why Lewisburg Elementary supports several local charities like participating in the annual can food drive with the local food pantry, Shop with a Cop with the Fraternal Order of Police, Greenbrier Humane Society, The Heart Association, St. Jude Children’s Research and Breast Cancer Awareness to name a few.
