The Alderson Town Council met on Thursday, Aug. 10, to discuss a brief agenda of items, chief among them the purchase of a new truck for city use. The purchase of the truck, which is a 2023 Dual Wheel of an unspecified make or model, will be purchased half with ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds and half via financing. The direct payment for the truck will be a withdrawal of approximately $46,000 from the town’s ARPA funds, and the monthly payment on the truck’s remaining half will be split between the city’s general, water, sewer, and street funds. The existing truck will be placed on govdeals.com to be liquidated, with the proceeds being used to furnish a snowplow for the new truck.
In other news, the city received $50,000 from a USDA Rural Development Grant, thanks in large part to the efforts of members of West Virginia’s congressional delegation, specifically Shelly Moore-Capito, Carol Miller, and Joe Manchin. “This town has always received so much help from our congressional representatives,” Mayor Copenhaver said. “I don’t care what letter goes before their name, they have always worked hard for us to help us out and I for one greatly appreciate them.”
