Mayor Travis Copenhaver and the Council of the Town of Alderson have announced that the firm of C. I. Thornberg, Inc. has been selected to provide and install new water meters for all water customers.
Mayor Copenhaver said, “These new meters will meet the requirement to eliminate lead from our meters; comply with the 10 year testing guidelines; and more accurately measure the amount of water consumed by our customers.”
Because of the more accurate measurement, the percent of “unaccounted for” water (water produced at the plant but not sold or otherwise accounted for) should be reduced. The improved accuracy in measurement of water consumed is expected to allow the Water Utility to repay the loan for the meters without raising the water rates for this specific purpose.
Copenhaver said, “Water rates will go up in October because of a three-year, phased-in increase passed in 2011 – not because of these new meters.”
A letter has been sent to all Alderson water customers which explains this improvement to the Water Utility.
