The lights of Alderson are on and waiting for you. Take a peek inside of Santa’s Workshop. Sit on a sleigh. See the beautiful lights of The Cedars and other homes in the community. Drive or walk around the historic part of town to see the Grand Illumination of the Memorial Bridge, Alumni Park, the businesses and shops and the star high above.
On the evenings of Dec, 11, 18 and 19 you can drive under the lights on the Alderson Memorial Bridge for a small donation. The shops will be open until 8 p.m.
Since Santa is so busy right now, Mrs. Claus and the Alderson Lion will meet children from 1-3 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 12 and 19. Mrs. Claus will collect letters for Santa and have her famous gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate on hand. You can take a peek at the Elves inside of Santa’s Workshop. On the 19th there will also be free hay rides across the bridge from the Train Depot to the Visitors Center and back. Then, at 4 p.m., the Goodson Boys will lead a Community Sing. Winners of the Home Decorating Contest will be announced. All this will be in the Alumni Park and Gazebo at the foot of the Memorial Bridge on the Monroe County side. In the event of bad weather these events will be in the Train Depot.
On Sunday, Dec. 13, from 1-5 p.m., there will be a Model Train Show inside the historic Alderson Train Depot. Trains are such a fun part of the holidays, so don’t miss this event.
Finally, Sunday the 20th, at 3 p.m., is a Christmas Cantata at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church. Beautiful music and celebration in a historic church.
Enjoy the holidays with music, food, shopping, friends, fun and lights in the Gem of the Hills, Alderson.
