The Monroe Arts Alliance is sponsoring free creative writing workshops in Alderson on Nov. 12 at the Alderson Presbyterian Church and Nov. 15 at the Monroe County Public Library in Union.
The Alderson workshop runs 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop in Union is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to both workshops.
“There are so many stories worth sharing,” said workshop leader Belinda Anderson. She will show how to turn experience and imagination into the written word. Those new to the writing experience will learn how to develop ideas into short narratives, and those already writing will discover techniques for honing their skills. Participants will leave with material for their own projects and possible entries for an upcoming volume of the Monroe County Tales, sponsored by the alliance.
Volumes I and II of the Monroe County Tales are small, hand-crafted books featuring stories by winners of writing contests sponsored by the alliance. Many of the stories offer glimpses into Monroe County’s rich heritage, while others give insight into the places, people, and events of the area.
Anderson, a Monroe County native, is the author of four books for young people and adults who draws on her Appalachian heritage for inspiration. She makes presentations throughout the state.
Bring a notebook and pen and enjoy a day of creativity.
