Alderson’s 4th of July Gospel Concert will be held Sunday, July 5, at Memorial Field. The concert, which starts at 6 p.m., will feature local artists, some of which are well-known. Among the talent is Derek Gwinn, who is a native of Alderson, and is Asst. Director of Athletics at Virginia Tech; Eva McVey, who is from Alderson and a Nashville Recording Artist; The McVey Family, from Alderson; Ron Sherrod, who is Pastor of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Lewisburg, and the River of Life Youth Drama team. Other talented singers included from the area: Johnny Zebosky, The Son Shiners, Kagney Shockley, and James Wilmer. It promises to be an uplifting, encouraging evening, so bring your chair or blanket, and enjoy!
The concessions and vendors will be open, and there will be duck tickets for sale. At the end of the evening, there will be some ground display and small aerial fireworks on the field, at 9:30, by the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department. Should the large fireworks show be rained out on the 4th, that entire show will be put off on the 5th at 9:30. The gospel concert is free to the public, but donations will be taken. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to River of Life Church of God. Call Jesse Willis, 304-646-6183, or Pastor Anthony Carter, 304-832-6124 with any questions.
