In celebration of the opening of the newly renovated Alderson Elementary School, community members are invited to a Community Open House at the school on Nov. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
“We are incredibly grateful to the SBA and the Town of Alderson for helping us transform the aging Community Center into a safe, healthy, accessible, and secure learning facility for the children of Alderson. This project has been a unique school-community partnership from the beginning to give the old building a new life and meet the needs of our students and the community. We hope this project will serve as a model for adaptive reuse and school-community partnerships that other school systems around the state will replicate,” states Superintendent Jeff Bryant.
A needs-based grant from the West Virginia School Building Authority made possible the transformation of the former Community Center/Alderson High building into a state-of-the-art facility with updated technology and learning environments, including a new Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom addition, a kitchen and dining area, and administrative offices. The new construction connects to the fully renovated structure, providing a safe and secure single building. Fencing around outdoor recreation and learning areas, a safe school entryway, an elevator, and a separate bus drive and drop-off loop create an organized, more secure operation.
The open house event at Alderson Elementary will feature guided tours of the new facility. Additionally, attendees can order apparel showcasing artwork created by an Alderson alum.
