“Joy to the World”, Luke 2:10, was the theme of the annual Adult Family Christmas Party, held at First Baptist Church, Fairlea, on Dec. 1. Hosted by the Good News, Maranatha, and Friendship Classes, the adult clients and caregivers from WVDHHR enjoyed a lovely celebration of the birth of our Savior.
Guests received a warm welcome from Senior Pastor, Dr. Dallas Smith who honored Herbert and Evelene Loudermilk for serving faithfully at First Baptist in many capacities, not least of which has been working selflessly organizing this special event. Also, honored was Bob Mitchell and in memory of his loving wife, Dorcas, who dedicated many years to the edification of First Baptist.
Following, Kenneth Goodall blessed the food. Everyone enjoyed a scrumptious turkey dinner with all of the trimmings prepared and organized by Edie Sauls and the class members.
Entertainment by Lucy Ramey, who sang and played Christmas music on the guitar instilled all with the Christmas spirit. A candy cane devotion by Kaye Hinkle and a bird story by Jack Smith represented the true meaning of the birth of Jesus Christ. Group singing was led by Brentz Thompson and accompanied by Betty Smith on the piano. As the honored guests sang “Here Comes Santa Claus,” a surprise visit with gifts for all clients was made by Old Saint Nick, Bobby Baker, and Santa’s special elves straight from the North Pole, Donna Smith and Liz Tallman.
At the conclusion of the fellowship, Pastor Dallas Smith made farewell remarks, followed by group singing of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and a parting prayer by Roger Cyphers.
A very heartfelt and grateful thanks to the chef and cafeteria staff of Greenbrier Medical Center for preparing and donating the turkey, WalMart, Tri-County Produce, and Greenbrier Medical Arts Pharmacy.
