A Stellar Evening fundraiser for the Greenbrier Historical Society was a success.

The Greenbrier Historical Society (GHS) marked its 60th anniversary with an unforgettable celebration at the Schoolhouse Hotel on Saturday, Dec. 2. The annual fundraiser, themed “Swingin’ 60s Stellar Evening,” transported attendees back to the magic of 1963, creating an atmosphere of joy, nostalgia, and community spirit.

The Schoolhouse Hotel’s Ballroom was the place to be as the community gathered for an evening of music, fashion, and historical celebration. The event, which promised to be a night of entertainment, exceeded expectations, and the ballroom was filled to capacity with enthusiastic guests, creating an electric atmosphere that resonated with the spirit of celebration.

Guests fully embraced the theme by donning their best ‘60s attire, adding a touch of authenticity to the night. The Monkees table, sponsored by Vest, won the table decorating contest and the Beatles table, sponsored by Kim & Stephen McBride, emerged victorious in the costume contest, adding a playful and competitive edge to the evening’s festivities.

One of the evening’s highlights was the live performance by the Dark Matters, a band that skillfully transported the audience back to the sounds of the ‘60s. The live and silent auctions also added an element of excitement, with exclusive experiences like a plane ride for two above the Greenbrier Valley and a private tour of the Greenbrier by historian emeritus Dr. Robert Conte being auctioned off. Dr. Conte captivated the audience with insightful remarks about the rich history of the Greenbrier Historical Society, serving as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving the past and educating the present.

Tickets for this highly anticipated event sold out, underscoring the community’s enthusiasm for supporting the Greenbrier Historical Society. The success of the 60th anniversary fundraiser will undoubtedly contribute to the GHS’s ongoing efforts to preserve the rich history of the Greenbrier Valley and educate future generations.

The Greenbrier Historical Society extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the Swingin’ ‘60s Stellar Evening. This event not only celebrated a milestone in the society’s history but also showcased the strong sense of community and commitment to preserving the past that defines the Greenbrier Valley.
