For the past decade, the Greenbrier County 4-H Leader’s Association has held a Venison Cook-off to raise monies for 4-H Camp. “Four-H camp is one of the highlights of a member’s 4-H experience, if not their life. It’s such a special thing in West Virginia 4-H, and for that reason we pour a lot into Greenbrier County 4-H camp every year, especially funds,” explained Greenbrier County 4-H Program Assistant Emily Cross. Last year the event was the biggest fundraiser for 4-H camp, bringing in $7,000. This success could be attributed to the event featuring a Bingo in conjunction with the Venison Cook-off and Auction.
This year the event will take place on Feb. 7 at the Cecil Underwood Building on the State Fairgrounds of West Virginia. The Venison Cook-off is set to begin at 3 p.m. with the Bingo getting underway at 4 p.m. Bingo will take a short intermission while the auction starts promptly at 6 p.m. Bingo will reconvene after the conclusion of the live auction. Light refreshments will be available throughout the entire event as well as free games and activities for youth.
Make it an outing for the whole family. Show off your venison cookery at the cook-off; pick up a Valentine’s gift at the auction; or have fun stamping bingo cards with the kids. With a new location reserved to accommodate more participants, there is no reason why the event cannot be even bigger and better this year.
