Repairs to the HVAC system at the Veterans Affairs’ Community Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC) located in the Greenbrier Valley Airport Industrial Park in Maxwelton are said to be on schedule, according to GVEDC Executive Director Steve Weir. Work on the system is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Harper Engineering and the Carrier Corporation inspected the system and discovered additional issues that may need to be addressed, Weir said. The issue is connected to the “over-sizing” of the heating and cooling units that were installed when the building was remodeled to the VA’s specifications.
“That over-sizing will probably result in systems failure if these issues are not addressed,” said Weir, as reported in The Register-Herald.
When completed, the duct work on the second floor will be inspected, wrapped and insulated as required, Weir reports.
The CBOC serves a region encompassing Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas and Summers counties, as well as Allegheny County in Virginia.
The CBOC first opened their doors in January of 2010, giving Greenbrier Valley military veterans better access to medical services. On Friday, June 6, 2014, the clinic was closed as a precaution after staff complained of feeling light-headed. By Thursday, July 31, 2014, a release from the Beckley VA Medical Center announced that the outpatient clinic would not reopen as soon as planned.
In the interim, all patients will continue to be seen at the Beckley VA Medical Center. Veterans with questions regarding eligibility or enrollment at the clinic should call 304-497-3900.
