The Greenbrier County Commission met on Tuesday, Dec. 30. During this meeting several Arts and Recreation transfers were reviewed. A total of $7,000 was allocated to the Meadow River Trail for mowing services, with partial reimbursement from Fayette County. An additional $3,685.40 was approved for the Meadow River Trail to cover consulting work, with partial reimbursement from AML and grants. The Town of Alderson Parks Commission received $2,675.95 for the purchase of 25-26 park bases and top fence guard. In total, $13,361.35 was approved to be transferred from savings to checking to cover these invoices.

The following New Business items were reviewed by the commissioners. Bids were opened for the elevation project at 4603-002 Fort Springs. One bid was received from Milton Construction in the amount of $300,000; this bid will be taken under review and revisited at a later date. Commissioners also considered approval of the Greenbrier County GigReady Project Authorization to Bid letter and the draft bid advertisement prepared by project engineers Thompson and Litton. The Commission President signed the letter, and it is now pending review by legal counsel.

Next, commissioners reviewed Draw Request #17 for the Greenbrier County GigReady Project, which included one invoice to Thompson and Litton in the amount of $1,400, with 25 percent to be paid from TIF funds and 75 percent from grant funds. A motion was made to approve the payment, and the motion passed.

Commissioners then considered Change Order #5 and Change Order #6 for the Meadow River Trail Project (Phase 3). Change Order #5 adds 68 days to the contract due to severe weather days when construction could not be performed, and Change Order #6 covers additional projects that were not originally planned. These changes revise the project completion date to February 2026. Both change orders were approved.

The separation of employment of Shane Peacock from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, effective Dec. 26, was confirmed. Commissioners also considered a new employment application for Jesse McCoy to fill a vacancy in the Greenbrier County Home Confinement Office; this application was approved.

A request from the Town of Renick for annexation of the Thacker and Lewis property was then considered. A motion was made to table the request until additional information is provided, and the motion was approved. Lastly, commissioners considered an employee request for a leave of absence. The meeting entered executive session to discuss personnel matters, and upon return, a motion was made to approve the request, which was approved.
