Fundraiser for Greenbrier Public Library kicks off December 4

The String Beings will perform at the Greenbrier County Public Library on Thursday, Dec. 4, for their kickoff of the 2025-2026 Fund Drive

The trustees of the Greenbrier County Public Library invite library lovers to attend the kick-off of the 2025-26 Fund Drive on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the library.  The evening will feature tasty appetizers, libations and entertainment. There is no admission fee.

Entertainment will be provided by three members of the incredibly talented Marks Family, known collectively as String Beings. Performing will be Erica Marks on cello and her daughters Sal on first violin and Asa on viola. They will play a mix of classical, folk and original music with some holiday favorites thrown in.

GCPL Board President Mardi McMillan explains that although the library does receive funding from the City of Lewisburg, the Greenbrier County Commission, and the State of West Virginia, it is not enough to cover annual operating expenses. She noted that the federal agency that provided library funding through the state has been disbanded, and the future of federal funding is still uncertain at this point.

She added that as the building is now 18 years old, there are increased expenses for upkeep. “We have been very fortunate that the City of Lewisburg and several of our local foundations have provided support for major projects like painting the interior and replacing the HVAC system, and we are very grateful to them for helping us maintain this treasure of a building.  Support from private donors helps the library grow its collection, offer programming for children and serve the public seven days a week.
