On Sunday, Jan. 18, Lewisburg’s newest bar, The Asylum, will feature an evening of boogie-down blues. Beginning at 6 p.m., the Apostles of Boogie will take the stage in front of the bar’s large stone fireplace.
Musician about town John Foster plays guitar in the Apostles and is joined by Bill Clapham on keys, Scott Logsdon on drums, Bob McGraw on harmonica and Evan Olds on bass.
“This is the first time we’ve ever played,” said Foster. “It’s really just a bunch of guys who love the blues getting together to play.”
As the national sales representative for Smooth Ambler Spirits, Foster is often out of town, but when he’s in Lewisburg, he’s usually performing. And, if anyone can draw a crowd, it’s Foster. The local blue-eyed blues musician has been DJ-ing, playing solo and in bands around town since he moved to the area. For the past couple of years, Foster has played with Lewisburg’s The Jarmovers, and he often plays solo during The Irish Pub’s Whiskey Wednesdays.
Asylum owners Colin Rose and Paula Thomas have been hoping to make The Asylum Lewisburg’s go-to spot for live music, and since the bar opened in November, they’ve already hosted The Bob Thompson Quartet’s holiday concert. That event came about through a partnership with local non-profit Casasanta. The Asylum will continue partnering with Casasanta to bring music to Lewisburg. As construction continues on The Asylum’s ground floor and up onto its rooftop deck, so will the opportunities for live music on Randolph Street.
The Apostles of Boogie will debut at The Asylum this Sunday at 6 p.m.
