Thank you, Denise
Dear Editor:
Hello, my name is Dorthy Smith from Staunton, VA. I am 79 years old, and I visited the WV State Fair last month with several family and friends as I have done for many years. We rode the bus from Staunton to Lewisburg to spend the majority of our day there.
The reason I’m writing this letter is to thank certain staff members at the fair for their help and service when I needed it.
My friends and I ate at one of the restaurants behind the Grandstand, Rudy’s, after which we started walking around and through the various buildings to look at all the vendors, crafts, and displays. We then found ourselves under the Grandstand; I then lost my group and got turned around. I came out the side near the Ham stand and towards the rides. I was confused and worried. After standing there for a moment trying to get myself together, I tried to figure out what to do next; my phone had been left on the bus as I didn’t think I would need it for the day knowing our group would meet at the drop off point close to 4:30 p.m.
At this point I saw a woman near the Grandstand gate with a WV Staff shirt and badge; I approached her stating I was confused and had lost my group but needed to get to the entrance by 4:30 in order to meet up and leave. She then assured me I was okay and helped me get through the crowds and back to the entrance. She asked if I had gone through the tunnel or came in across the road near a church; I stated it was the main entrance near the free parking. While escorting me back to the entrance we had a wonderful conversation about the fair, certain traditions, and her working there with her grandparents cleaning the grandstand after the shows when she was a teenager.
We finally reached the tunnel and the main entrance; I told her I knew where I was, and she stayed with me until I found my group. I thanked her for her help and asked for her name; she said her name was Denise.
I wanted to thank Denise and the WV State Fair; I am grateful to be able to come back year after year to a place with such kind and helpful people.
Sincerely,
Dorthy Smith
