Kyle Calvin Simmons, 87, of Clintonville, WV, went home from this world peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg. Kyle was born May 8, 1938, in Hinton, WV, the son of the late Joseph Calvin and Watha Moses Simmons.
Kyle attended East Rainelle Elementary School, and graduated from Rainelle High School in 1956. He served his country in the 130th Combat Support Squadron of Air National Guard of WV. He was member of Dunbar Lodge 159 AF & AM, Valley of Charleston, Orient of WV, attaining high honor of Scottish Rite Mason for over 52 years. He served his community as a South Charleston Police Officer, and then later as a Greenbrier County Deputy Sheriff for 22 years before retiring. His longest and most loved profession was that of a farmer, enjoying the land, the wildlife, and raising cattle, for over 50 years.
A loving husband to his wife, Lynda, for 64 years, Kyle was a pillar of strength, protection, and support for his family. He was a devoted and proud father of three, grandfather of five, and great-grandfather of eight. He enjoyed sharing his love of nature, hunting and farming, any family gathering and a good meal. He loved the fur babies of the family as much as people. His unique sense of humor could make a room laugh at the most unexpected times.
Kyle was preceded in death by his eldest son, Matthew Brown Simmons. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Brown Simmons, his son, Mark Joseph Simmons (Suzanne), his daughter, Anne Lynn Sims (Randy); grandchildren, Justin, Joseph (Missy), Sarah (JD), Joshua (Autumn) and Mattie (Eric); great-grandchildren, Riley, Avery, Oliver, Emmett, Carter, James, Emma and Holden. He is also survived by nieces and nephew, neighbors, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Kyle’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Clintonville, WV. (16155 Midland Trail West, Crawley, WV 24931). Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, c/o Greenbrier Valley Shrine Club, 355 Echols Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901, or Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
As Kyle said it best, “All in all, life has been good for this old man.”
