Carter Wayne Smith, 14, of Clintonville, passed away on Sept. 6, 2025.

He was born on Oct. 4, 2010 at Ronceverte; he was the son of the late Adam Wayne Smith and Kelly Jo Thomas.

In addition to his father and mother; he is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Tammy Sanford Thomas.

Carter attended the Meadow Grove Baptist Church of Grassy Meadows. He loved fishing, hunting, spending time with his friends and family. He will be missed by all knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his great-grandparents who provided a loving home for their “son,” Danny and Patsy Sanford of Clintonville; paternal grandfather, Mike Smith of Rainelle; maternal grandparents, Mike (Kim) Thomas of Morgantown; sister, Aubrey Herndon of Charmco; brother, Franklin Herndon of Clintonville; special aunt, Tracey (Kenneth) Posten of Smoot; special uncle, Jason Thomas as well as many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins; extended family and friends.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, at Fairview Cemetery at Nettie, with Pastor Billy Pate officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Posten, Ron Lazzarine, Xerxes Rahmati, Sam Johnson, Canaan Elder, and James Elder.

The family wishes to express a very special thank you to James Chapel United Methodist Church, all family and friends for the many calls, prayers and donations.
