Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, is proud and excited to have local singer/songwriter Lillie King playing the lead role in the upcoming performances of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Performance dates for the show begin on June 27 and run through July 12.
Lillie King began performing at Greenbrier Valley Theatre at the age of 8 and has since appeared in over 15 productions. Some of her most memorable roles include Cinderella in Into the Woods, Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Jr., and Belle in Beauty and the Beast Jr.
In 2018, she studied Musical Theatre Performance at the New York Film Academy and continued to work in the industry until 2020. After graduating from high school, she decided it was time to pursue her other passion: songwriting. Lillie then spent a few years in Nashville writing and recording original music before returning home to Lewisburg, where she now works as a full-time entertainer at The Greenbrier Resort.
In addition to her work at The Greenbrier, Lillie leads her band, Lillie and The Kingsmen, creating and performing original music. She is deeply grateful to her bandmates for running with her ideas and helping her make ‘Beautiful’ music to share with the world – just like her longtime idol, Carole King. Lillie is thrilled to be playing Carole in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, a dream role inspired by her lifelong admiration for the iconic singer/songwriter.
“If you know me, you know Carole King has been my musical idol forever,” said King. “When I was very young, I thought I had a special connection to her because we shared the same last name. As I grew older and began writing my own music, my admiration for her only grew because I could hear her influence in the music I was writing. She is the gold standard for songwriters, and as a young songwriter myself trying to break into the industry, I feel especially connected to the story that is told in Beautiful.”
