Well, the new season has begun! It’s an exciting time for all the Greenbrier East Wrestlers and the Coaches. Remember, everyone at this time is undefeated and optimistic about reaching his or her goals. The coaching staff is already VERY impressed with the work effort from all of the Wrestlers. I sometimes hear from older people and parents that our young people don’t work hard and that they are often apathetic. HA! Stop by our Wrestling Room and you will see many current leaders and future success stories right in front of your eyes. Again, you’re always welcome to stop by our Wrestling Room where hard work and effort are the key components to our success.
Our season has already had many highlights. We have had Wrestling Clinics from State Champions, All-Americans, and National Champions. Heck, we even took the whole High School and Middle School Wrestling Teams to Virginia Tech so we could personally meet the legendary Olympic Champion Dan Gable. We had the privilege to listen to him speak and be the honored guests for the Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State Wrestling match. WOW! What a great opportunity.
Our Motto this season is: “Setting Higher Standards!” on and off the mat.
TRIVIA: When is the first Match for the Greenbrier East Wresting Team this season?
Upcoming events & highlights:
CONGRATULATIONS to Greenbrier East’s 1st Team All-State (Again) Volleyball Player, Abby Brown. I used to go to their games just to watch her play. She is Big-Time! (No offense to my daughter who was also on the team)
Our first home Wrestling meet (The Greenbrier Duals) will be on Saturday, December 20th starting at 11:00am, Please come out and show support for our team.
This year’s Team Captains are all returning State Qualifiers and Great leaders. Josiah Solak (Sr.). Evan Roberts (Sr.), Adam Zimmerman (Sr.) and Jasiel Kinder (Jr.)
Coach Tracy Asbury talked to all of our senior Wrestlers on Wednesday and went over our successful mentoring program. We are working with each of our senior student-athletes to overcome adversity and help them reach their goals for now and the future. It was a great presentation. There is an old phrase that goes like this “Most young student-athletes don’t really care what you know, they just want to know that you care!” If that is true (which it is) we have one of the best coaching staffs in West Virginia.
See Coach Miluk or one of our current Wrestlers about our ‘Adopt a Wrestler’ program. It’s a Great way to support our team and follow the success of our Wrestlers.
Please follow us throughout the year and support the effort and success of all our wrestlers.
