The annual literacy night at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School (EGMS) was held on Nov. 18. This year’s theme was centered on The Hunger Games book series by Suzanne Collins.
Students, parents, and staff who attended crafted a bow and arrow and practiced their archery with certified instructors; participated in a trivia contest testing their knowledge of the book series; and competed in a survivor game. All students were registered for a drawing to win copies of the book. A Kindle was awarded to one student as a grand prize. The cafeteria staff provided warm pepperoni rolls for the students to enjoy while they participated.
The annual literacy night is sponsored by the EGMS National Network of Partnership of Schools (NNPS) Action Team for Partnerships, comprised of parents, business partners, teachers, school administrators and a student representative.
Established at John Hopkins University in 1996, NNPS invites schools, districts, states, and organizations to join together and use research-based approaches to organize and sustain excellent programs of family and community involvement that will increase student success in school. Local businesses interested in being a part of the NNPS initiative at EGMS should contact the school at 304-647-6498.
