Greenbrier Valley Theatre will open its doors this summer for three weeks of camp
If the ever-rising temperatures are any indication, summer is officially here and Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) is preparing to beat the heat with their annual summer camps. Kids of all ages will join the GVT community this summer to learn about theatre arts from a team of professionals. The theme of this year’s camp is “It’s About Time.”
“Camp is a fun and interactive time where we encourage kids to put their screens away for a bit and learn valuable teamwork and communication skills, as well as embrace our imaginations through play,” said Education Director Dorothy Jo Oberfoell.
Each week features a unique camp for different age groups. Weeks one and two will be targeted for rising second through tenth graders. Week three is for rising kindergarteners through third graders. Participants do not need to have prior experience in theatre to sign up.
During week one, students will spend their camp time creating a new play from scratch. Kids will work in groups with a director to write the script, cast the show, rehearse, and create costumes, props, and more.
Week two is the “musical theatre week,” where there is more focus on singing and dancing. This year students will work on a full musical and perform it at the end of the week. This show was specifically chosen to accommodate campers of all skill levels in a safe and fun environment.
“The students are going to be involved in the whole show process – from learning music and making costumes to helping with the set,” said Oberfoell.
All three weeks will be filled with activities, crafts, and classes to engage the mind of students and get their creative juices flowing. Whether your child is a professional performer, or are just thinking about starting out, Greenbrier Valley Theatre’s Summer Drama camp is for them.

Need-based scholarships are available for all weeks.
