In May, the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation awarded Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships to twelve Greenbrier County high school seniors. Recipients selected for the $1000 scholarship awards are Baylee Burns, Megan Canterbury, Peter Furlong, Gracie Gumm (not pictured), Landon Vanfosson, James Viney, Kathleen Weiford, Elias White, Alyssa Bush, Hunter Gwinn, Delaney Redden, and Kinlei Robbins.
Stephen L. Baldwin served as the Superintendent of Greenbrier County Schools from 1988-2002. This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2005 by the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation (GCSF) with a gift from Mr. Baldwin’s wife, Charlotte. Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to students from Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School. Since 2006, ninety-six scholarships have been awarded.
It was through Mr. Baldwin’s dedication and vision that the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation was established. This scholarship fund is just one of many meaningful ways that his commitment to education and his impact on the lives of Greenbrier County students will continue for years to come.
The Greenbrier County Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization that generates and distributes resources to enrich, maintain, and expand educational opportunities for students in Greenbrier County. Gifts to the foundation are tax-deductible.
