The AA McLaughlin Scholarship was created in honor of AA McLaughlin who was a long time teacher and very successful coach at Alderson High School. He was the first Athletic Director at Greenbrier East. The scholarship is awarded to deserving Greenbrier East seniors who live in the Alderson School district.
The scholarship was started in 2001 and the fund is administered by the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation. Since the first funds were awarded in 2001, 50 scholarships for more than $48,000 have been awarded to worthy Greenbrier East students. In the beginning year, one scholarship for $500 was awarded. In 2024, six scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded.
The scholarship board is very appreciative of those who have supported the fund over the years and allowed it to grow. Those wanting to make contributions should contact Anne Bowling at the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation. Anne can be reached at P.O. Box 1682 Lewisburg 24901, or 304-645-5620.
