John Paul Garnett
Lewisburg-John Paul Garnett died Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2014, at his residence, He was born in Glasgow, WV, the son of Lawrence Edward and Elisabeth Greenlee Garnett.
He graduated from Bramwell High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Concord College and graduated in January 1951. He moved to Lewisburg in 1958 and in 1988 retired from the Division of Vocational Rehab. with 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer and President of Methodist Men Fellowship. He was a member and past President of the Lewisburg Lions Club, having received the Leonard Jarrett Award. He was a life Member of the Greenbrier Historical Society where he served as Treasurer from 1976 to 1992 and President from 1988 to 2000. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greenbrier Manor and WV A United Methodist Men Foundation. He was a volunteer at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center with over 8,500 hours of service.
He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Julia Knight Garnett and two children, John Edward and wife Angela, Ann Kudro and husband Michael; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Greenlee Kudro, Thomas Andrew Kudro and Chelsea, Oakley and Evan Garnett; one great-grandson, Grayson Michael Kudro; two sisters, Imogene Gregory of Roanoke, VA and Mary Starnes of Salisbury, MD.
Funeral services for Mr. Garnett were held Monday, Nov. 17, at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church where Rev. Rick Brown officiated.
Interment was in Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.
The family received their friends Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Greenbrier Historical Society.
