Appalachian Headwaters announces a new, affordable day camp near Lewisburg starting in July
Starting July 1, children age 8-12 will have a new opportunity to participate in Waldo Day Camp, six miles west of Lewisburg. This fun and educational camp will feature a full-day program, Monday through Friday, with before and aftercare available for working families. The camp will run for seven weeks throughout the summer.
Day campers will work with experienced outdoor educators, an ecologist, a plant specialist, and others in an environment rich in opportunity for learning about the natural world. A certified low ropes course, archery, games, gardens, arts activities, and yoga will make for a well-rounded experience for children.
“We want kids to have fun, make friends, and learn something along the way,” says Erica Marks, Waldo Day Camp Director. “Being active outdoors is a great way to spend the summer. We plan to provide an engaging environment with a variety of activities so campers can try new things and develop skills they already have.”
Kevin Johnson, Education Director, adds, “Like at Camp Waldo, our overnight camp in Summers County, we want to bring fun, adventure and personal growth to spending time in the outdoors this summer!”
The camp will operate on a sliding scale fee system based on income with additional financial aid available – making the camp available to all eligible youth regardless of ability to pay. Waldo Day Camp is a project of Appalachian Headwaters, a local nonprofit focused on environmental education and ecological restoration.
Headwaters is also recruiting high school students to work on the summer crew, including opportunities to work with the day camp. Visit an informative open house on Apr. 25 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The priority deadline for applications is May 5. To learn more and to apply to Waldo Day Camp, visit www.appheadwaters.org.
