The Town of Alderson and Alderson Main Street have announced a new celebration: Lion Days, running from Mar. 18 through Mar. 30 in honor of French, the Alderson lion, and the month of March, the month that comes in like a lion. Visit Alderson and see how businesses and residents decorate in French’s honor, adding to the lion theme of statues and sculptures scattered throughout the town.
Lion Days will begin on Mar. 18 and culminate on Saturday, Mar. 30, with a gathering at the Alderson Train Depot at 2 p.m. where the lion’s story will be told and the lion paintings created by the young artists will be displayed for all to see.
During spring break on Tuesday, Mar. 26, school-aged children will be invited to come to Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson to paint mural-sized lion paintings. Each child will be able to create their own painting. Parents whose children would like to participate in this free art activity may contact Cheryl Mansley at cherylmansley@gmail.com or 304-702-0554 to sign their children up and get more information.
Also, everyone is invited to share a photo of their pet dressed up as a lion. Just post it as a comment on Alderson Main Street’s Facebook page under the Pet Costume post. A winner will be announced on Mar. 30.
