Rhythm of the Dance

Carnegie Hall presents a matinee performance of popular Irish Dance group Rhythm of the Dance on Sunday, Mar. 3, at 3 p.m. Guests are invited to come early to Club Carnegie from 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the Board Room located adjacent to the Hamilton Auditorium. A cash bar and snacks will be available. Carnegie Hall’s Class & Workshop Series presents a special lecture and demo by the Rhythm of the Dance dancers before their performance on Sunday, March 3, at 12:30 p.m. in the Old Stone Room (located on the ground floor). The class is free, but attendees must register.

Rated as the most popular Irish Dance production touring the world, Rhythm of the Dance creates a new era in Irish entertainment. This extravaganza celebrates all elements of Irish culture with champion step dancers and innovative choreography, first rate Irish musicians and singers, and storytelling that is centuries old and yet utilizes the latest in stage technology to celebrate the Emerald Isle in the 21st century.

The dancers are among the most accomplished Irish dancers in the world. Over the years the show has been proud to boast numerous national, international, and world champion dancers. Their dedication to the art form of Irish dance is clear on-stage during production. With their graceful movement and disciplined control, it is often said that “they make it look easy.” What is not evident is the off-stage commitment required to reach the panicle of Irish dance demanded of the rhythm of the dance dancers. With the rigors of touring and the endless hours of rehearsals and practice, working and reworking routines the dancers of Rhythm of the Dance form lifelong friendships and get to know intricately know each other’s dance styles and timing. And it is this unique knowledge that enables the dancers and choreography team to deliver the driving rhythmic performance which has been enjoyed live by millions worldwide.

This incredible live show blends the principal forms of Irish dance Step, Set, Old Style Step, and Sean-nós, to re-invent and create a new era in Irish entertainment. Combining traditional dance and music with the most up to date stage technology, this two-hour dance and music extravaganza takes audiences on an exhilarating and exciting, energy-packed time trip through the ages. It’s internationally rated as one of the most popular and busiest Irish step dance shows in the world making it such a success with critics and audiences worldwide.

For the special lecture and demo workshop, it will be an informative afternoon of exploring the world of historic Irish Dance. Dancers and community members of all ages will have a rare opportunity to meet with the performing artists and learn firsthand about Ireland’s cultural heritage of music and dance.

“Our part of West Virginia is steeped in Scots Irish culture, history, and descendants and we often receive requests for music and dance of this genre because of the connection,” explains Kit Lindsey, Carnegie Hall Development Manager. “Seldom in rural Appalachia does a community have the opportunity to engage in an international ensemble of this caliber.”
