West Virginia’s iconic resort, The Greenbrier, has announced plans for its 4th annual “Dream Tree for Kids” holiday gift drive, which aims to donate more than $1 million in toys and clothes to local and national charities.

The “Dream Tree for Kids” project is the brainchild of The Greenbrier’s owner Jim Justice, who initiated the massive holiday gift drive three years ago with his own donations, with the goal of ensuring that children throughout West Virginia and beyond wake up on Christmas morning with at least one gift to unwrap.

“Last year’s Dream Tree was such an amazing success that we knew we had to do it even bigger and better this year,” said Justice. “We believe that giving back to our community goes to the core of what The Greenbrier represents and is in keeping with our rich history.”

All gifts and proceeds from the “Dream Tree for Kids” drive will go towards the purchase of toys for children in need.

“It broke my heart thinking that my kids would wake up Christmas morning and not see any toys underneath our tree,” recalled a 2013 Dream Tree participating parent. “I couldn’t imagine what to do. But then, I heard about the toys through the Union Mission and The Greenbrier; getting the toys made my children have the most wonderful Christmas.”

For those who wish to donate items for the charity drive, The Greenbrier has provided two options for guests:

• Purchase an item for the “Dream Tree” from Fizzy’s Land of Oz at The Greenbrier

• Give a donation in the form of cash or a personal check (made payable to “Old White Charities”) at the Front Desk.

All donations must be received by Dec. 10, and are tax-deductible (receipts will be provided).
