Alderson-Joyce Ann Weeks Housby, 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at CAMC Memorial in Charleston following a short illness.
She was born Sept. 2, 1941, in Alderson, a daughter of the late Joseph Glen and Bernice (Mays) Weeks.
After graduating Alderson High School in 1959. She went on to work for the WV Dailey News and Hinton Newspaper as a news journalist. Joyce was a devout member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and directed the choir. She was a member of the Alderson Women’s Club and enjoyed being involved in the community.
Joyce will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her favorite things included sewing, crocheting, baking, and playing the piano, and she taught private piano lessons as well.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Lisa Ann Haumann, of Alderson, Tammy Housby Carter and her husband Thomas, of Alderson; her son, Joseph Grayson Housby, of Alderson; her grandchildren, Ryan Nicholas McGuire and his wife Jessica, of Beckley, Drew Alexander McGuire and his companion Angel Vance, of Sinks Grove, Jonathon Craig Housby and his wife Kristin, of San Antonio, TX, Thomas Joseph Bennett and his wife Ashley, of Westminster, MA, Kara Bennett Cvechko and her husband John, of South Charleston, WV; her seven great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years Thomas Eldridge “Nat” Housby, her son, Robert Stephen Housby, her brothers, Robert and Jack weeks, and her sisters, Wanda Phillips and Doris Perry
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Kanode officiating. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
