The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting, Tuesday, Jun. 13 in the church fellowship hall. Carole Spencer presided and Kim Brookman led in prayer.
Dyan Hefner presented the devotion. “Do you know anyone with hats?” Many years ago, women wore hats all of the time. Do you like hats? Hats are worn to be stylish, to keep our head warm, and for protection. Football helmets and motorcycle helmets have padding to protect the brain. The mind helps a person be aware of the world and experiences. We are all shaped by our thoughts. Everything begins in the mind. If our mindset changes, everything on the outside changes, which can be positive or negative. The mind plays a big part of our emotions. The battlefield of the mind must be guarded carefully by the helmet of salvation. (Ephesians 6:17) Don’t let certain thoughts take up vacancy in your mind. Certain things that control your mind could be considered an idol. Don’t conform to the world, do what is pleasing in God’s will, let Christ enter your heart and a dramatic change will take place. Renew your minds every day. (Roman 12:2) We also need to wear the breastplate of righteousness along with our helmet. Don’t invite unwelcome thoughts in, choose the armor of God. We are all going through challenges and this affects the head first. Be careful for nothing, but by prayer and supplication, let your requests be known to God. The peace of God shall keep your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Kim Brookman brought us our missionary education report. She read several notes from missionaries that we have been praying for, including Tim and Joy Coppess from Botswana and Abby and Jason Torgeson from Costa Rica. She also read an article written by Abby Torgeson about serving the people in Costa Rica. She shared about Steve and Beverly Perry that are missionaries in Sri Lanka. Their primary duty is to help teach and train church leaders in the area. They were both from Kansas City, Kansas and rode the same school bus. Steve was the associate editor of Vital Christianity for some time and Peggy felt called to serve in missions. They met again at the North American Convention in 2006 and were married in 2007.
Jamie Harvey gave the treasurer’s report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.
The group will serve the Maxwelton Ruritans on May 22. The group will also be doing the concession for the auction to be held at Velma Brackenrich’s home on Vago Road on Saturday, July 15. The group will be selling hot dogs with all the toppings and drinks. The group voted to stop collecting for the mile of pennies and donate the money. The group decided to cancel our July meeting. The church will be having Vacation Bible School, July 10-14, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The Bible School will be a western theme.
The next meeting will be Aug. 8 and Marsha Merritt dismissed in prayer.
