In May, the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation awarded Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships to 12 Greenbrier County high school seniors. Recipients selected for the $1,000 scholarship awards were: Cadence Stewart, Makayla Walton, Lauren Rodgers, Clara Long, Jacelyn Lilly, Nicole Cochran, Mackenzie Friend, Meghan Byers and Cedric Allder from Greenbrier East High School. Receiving the awards from Greenbrier West High School were Raelyn Palmer, Meagan Poticher, and Emma Ames.
Stephen L. Baldwin served as the Superintendent of Greenbrier County Schools from 1988-2002. This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2005 by the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation (GCSF) with a gift from Mr. Baldwin’s wife, Charlotte. Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to students from Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School. Since 2006, 184 scholarships have been awarded.
It was through Mr. Baldwin’s dedication and vision that the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation was established. This scholarship fund is just one of many meaningful ways that his commitment to education and his impact on the lives of Greenbrier County students will continue for years to come.
The Greenbrier County Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization that generates and distributes resources to enrich, maintain, and expand educational opportunities for students in Greenbrier County.
