Carmel, IN-Sara Ann George, 95, formerly of Ronceverte and Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1918, in Atlanta, GA. Sara fondly referred to her Uncle Robert and Auntie Ella Thomason as parents because she spent most of her growing up years with them.
She was a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Sara taught Latin and English in Ronceverte High School, Ronceverte, before retiring in early the 1970’s.
Sara and her husband, Charles owned and operated George’s Rexall Drug Store in Ronceverte for a number of years. Through the years, Sara and Charles hosted several European families in their home allowing them the privilege of living in America. Sara enjoyed playing Bridge and was an avid reader, appreciating a variety of books. She also loved dogs, particularly her pet poodle, Mr. French. Sara was a long time resident of Greenbrier County.
Sara was truly an example of being devoted to and living out her Christian faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth (Tom) Fuller; son, Charles George II; granddaughters, Rita George, Katie Nave and Kelly Fuller; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Jonah Nave.
Family and friends gathered on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in Ronceverte Presbyterian Church, of which Sara was a member, and where the funeral service was officiated by Pastor Stephen Baldwin.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Ronceverte Presbyterian Church with envelopes available at the church.
