Fairlea-James Campbell Bennett, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at the Greenbrier Health Care Center in Lewisburg.
He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Blue Sulphur Springs, a son to the late Emma Bennett Parker.
After attending High School, James proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, where he was awarded two bronze stars for his valor. He later went on to work as a truck driver until his retirement. James enjoyed watching westerns and politics on television. He will be remembered as a hard worker, and his devotion to his family, especially his granddaughter and great-grandsons.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Ann Wheeler and husband Jimmy of Alderson; his granddaughter, Rachel Kelly and husband Jason, of Alderson; his great-grandsons, Jack and Owen Kelly both of Alderson; his sister, Margaret Hamrick of Springdale, WV; as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver “Earl” Bennett, and Raymond Parker.
James’ family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at the Greenbrier Health Care Center.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Maude Chapel Cemetery in Dawson, where Pastor Audie Sorg officiated. Full military honors were accorded by the U.S Army Reserve Camp Dawson.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
