I have a couple of old knives that I can no longer use. Since they are made of metal, I was wondering if they can be recycled.

Yes, your metal knives can be recycled. Take them to the aluminum door of the Recycle Center, ring the bell, and hand the knives to the employee who comes to assist you. Never put them in one of the bins with other items or conceal them in any way. They become hazardous for our employees.
Dear Recycle Lady,
I have seven small bags of sand that I no longer need. Is there any organization or business that could use these bags of sand? I don’t want to put them in the trash.

ReStore, a non-profit that accepts and resells items to benefit Habitat for Humanity, said they would accept your sand as they use sand for preparing old cans of paint for disposal. ReStore is located outside Lewisburg on Route 219 N, across from Rosewood Cemetery. (1431 N. Jefferson Street)

In one of your former columns, you said thatsteel candy boxescan be recycled with steel cans. Yes, that’s true, but these boxes can be reused. People buy and sell attractive metal candy boxes on eBay, Facebook, and other places. If someone doesn’t want to go through the trouble of selling their box, they can donate it to a thrift store or a nonprofit that sells items as a fundraiser. They also be reused as packaging for a gift or for storing small items. I use decorative candy boxes to store embroidery floss, postage stamps, stickers, and address labels.

I am sorry to say, raffle tickets are not recyclable locally. They are so small that they slip through machines during baling or hauling and this creates extra work for our employees.
