The Greenbrier Valley Disability Awareness Committee is sponsoring the Darkness to Light workshop through the Greenbrier County Extension Office. The workshop brings attention to child sexual abuse; educating adults how to prevent, recognize and react to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s responsibility.
The comprehensive program incorporates all of the fundamental mechanics necessary in creating organizational policies and procedures that keep children safe. It is ideal for training staff and volunteers on child sexual abuse prevention. The program includes the “5 Steps to Protecting our Children.” It is an evidence based educational tool for child sexual abuse prevention. The program integrates the simple principles of choice, consciousness, and then uses those principles to provide a context for empowered action. The program is motivational and compelling. It calls participants into personal responsibility for the safety of children, while at the same time appreciates their fears and concerns.
There is no cost for the training as it has already been paid for by WV Rehabilitation and WV Extension. Kay Davis, who is a trained facilitator, will be presenting this program. Lunch will be provided as this is considered a “working meeting.” If you work with children in clubs, schools or church settings this program should be considered a “must have” experience. The workshop will be held, from noon to 3 p.m., Oct. 29, at St. James Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, Lewisburg. The number of persons we can accommodate is limited, so please call and make your reservations for this workshop. You may call 304-645-4229 if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.
