Fiber Arts is enjoying a busy season which began with the State Fair of West Virginia. All members participated in the spinning and weaving demonstrations, accompanied by the Kids Corner Cardboard Loom projects. Presently, many of the group are involved in the two-weekend spinning workshop offered by Laurie Duxbury at Carnegie Hall. Toni Ogden is also offering a six-week workshop which will accommodate beginning, intermediate and returning weavers. For more information call 304-645-7917.

Members Wendy Lechner and Jeannie Collins, in cooperation with the Allegheny Highland Arts and Crafts Center, will be in Clifton Forge, VA, on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. demonstrating spinning and weaving.Everyone should bring a potluck dish to share and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a spinner! Some of our members will also be participating in November at the Williamsburg spin-in; another outreach and recruitment effort for spinners is being made in another neighboring Monroe county. These get-togethers provide support and encouragement to anyone interested in the fiber arts.

Following the Nov. 9 FAN meeting, Pat Egan will present a mini-workshop on designing your own shawl or scarf. The workshop will be about two hours with a follow-up about a week later where participants will work on a design for their own project. All are welcome.

Marge Radcliffe, from Blacksburg, VA, will be teaching a knitting workshop on Mar. 28-29, 2015. Detailed information on classes and scheduling will be posted in the Ann Porterfield Studio at Carnegie Hall or email Marie Murtaugh at vmarie@mac.com.

Everyone is also preparing for the annual Christmas Sale at Lewisburg City Hall on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6. This is a major fundraiser for our group and is always a wonderful opportunity to see and purchase the beautiful work of our local artisans. Mark your calendar and plan to join us on First Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6.

Encouraging to all is that Greenbrier East is planning to begin a Fiber Arts Club. Later, after the group is organized there will be more information available. Fiber Arts outreach has grown over the last two years and our new members have added so much to our group.

The next FAN meeting will be Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Ann Potterfield Weaving Studio at Carnegie Hall. The business meeting will be held from 10-11 a.m. followed by a program at the North Museum. Toni Ogden will present a program titled “Behind the Scenes: The Historical Societies Collection and Preservation of Textiles.” If you are a weaver, spinner, knitter, or just interested in learning more, you are always invited to join us at our monthly meetings. For questions or more information, contact Murtaugh at 304-647-3149.
