The women of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting in the church fellowship hall on Sept. 16 with Betty Lou Byers, Rosie Blake and Shirley Loudermilk as hostesses. Carole Spencer presided over the meeting and August Hefner gave the opening prayer.
Dyan Hefner gave the devotion about a clock maker who made his greatest work of art and set it between two other clocks. One clock was negative and was concerned about how many ticks the clock would make in one year. The other was positive and concentrated on one tick at a time. We as Christians should not be overwhelmed by a million ticks but should trust God moment by moment. We should do things that are important and what we need to do and not what we want to do.
The group also had a special prayer for the leaders of the Prayer Retreat set for Sept. 19 and 20 at Cedar Lakes in Ripley. Eight members planned to go.
Barbara Seldomridge gave the missionary education report by reading a poem, “Missionaries” with scripture reference James 1: 14-25. We are all required to be missionaries for Christ. Many people have never heard the word. We should ask what we can to do to better serve the Lord. There is much work to be done.
Jamie Harvey gave the financial report. Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.
The group reported sending 80 cards, making 9 visits, and making 17 phone calls. The group will give the church $2,000 for landscaping and improvements around the church as previously discussed. The yard sale held earlier this month was a big success. The Bean Dinner will be held Monday, Oct. 6, in the church fellowship hall. The Christmas Dinner will be held Dec. 2 in the church fellowship hall for members of the group. The group also discussed shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child and plan to pack shoe boxes again.
