After receiving a call on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 28, from a concerned property owner, members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police, and the Greenbrier County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force were dispatched to “a remote wooded area near Alderson/Fort Spring” to investigate found human skeletal remains.
The landowner was clearing brush in order to build a fence when they stumbled across the remains. Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan said that a cadaver dog was called to the scene to aid in the recovery process. Police located other pieces of the remains in the immediate area, and worked to gather as much as possible in order to submit them to the medical examiner’s office for possible identification.
More information will be released as the investigation continues.
