Asheville, North Carolina singer-songwriter Kevin Smith will present his solo project Planefolk at Carnegie Hall’s upcoming Ivy Terrace Concert Series on Thursday, July 22, at 7 p.m. The concert will take place outside on Carnegie Hall’s Ivy Terrace as attendees watch from the expansive lawn in front of New River Community and Technical College. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and pack a picnic to enjoy live music. All Ivy Terrace concerts are free, open to the public, and alcohol free.
Planefolk is the solo singer-songwriter project for Kevin Smith. Smith draws inspiration from the sights and sounds he grew up with in the mountains of Western North Carolina, weaving stories of life, love, loss and leaving. Smith grew up with a knack for storytelling and poetry and combined this with a newfound passion for guitar in his early twenties. He began playing guitar around the same time he was turned on to the music and song writing of John Prine and soon began his own foray into the craft. The music scene in Asheville and the surrounding area is rich with talented song writers like Amanda Anne Platt of the Honeycutters who says of Smith, “Kevin Smith is one of my favorite songwriters, as well as being one of my favorite people. He has that rare ability to write a song that makes you laugh, and then cry, and then laugh again. He’s the genuine article. “
The remaining schedule is Richard Hefner & Friends (bluegrass) on July 29 (rescheduled from June 8), DeniBonet (pop/rock) on Aug. 5, Andrew Adkins (singer/songwriter) on Aug. 12, Steel Pterodactyl (original eclectic/dance) on Aug. 26, Seldom Free (original groove/rock) on Sept. 9, and Jack Grace Band (original alt-country) on Sept. 23. The final outdoor concert will be Oct. 7 – artist to be announced.
