More than 40 fourth through eighth graders joined the ranks of the Spartans during the Football program’s first annual Football Camp June 24-26. Under the direction of Coach Ray Lee, the camp gave younger athletes an introduction to Spartan Football through fundamentals, drills and positive motivation.
The camp consisted of an introduction to football warm-ups, drills, fundamentals of training, instruction, lunch with the players and an activity just for fun. Each athlete also received their marks on three football fundamentals: running a 40, broad jump and shuttle run.
“Footba
ll Camps are a great way to show kids the fun of the sport and start building relationships between small enthusiasts and our program,” said Coach Lee. “They had a great time and it was a GREAT group of kids this year with great energy.”
Parents also gave Coach Lee’s program positive marks. “I was very proud of the volunteers who put on this camp this week. All the coaching staff and Spartan athletes made a very positive impression on my son! It was a great experience,” said Amy Hall of Ronceverte.
Volunteer directors of the new program included the 2013 Coaching Staff of Coach Lee, Coach Sam Johnson, Coach Kevin Baker and Coach Lefty Smith as well as Raz Walker, Sue Lee, Kim Cooper and Kenneth Baker.
