Procter and Gamble appears to be promoting eco-awareness in two new initiatives. The first is a publicity campaign urging consumers to use cold water whenever washing clothes. They assert that their testing shows that Tide brand laundry detergent works as well in cold water as in warm or hot water and stress the amount of greenhouse gases eliminated by this action.

Thanks for the information on the two Proctor and Gamble (P&G) initiatives. Their Sunday’s advertising slick gave the same information, as well as information about their eco-boxes for Gain, Downy, Dreft, and Tide. With compact packaging, these boxes use 60% less plastic. Kudos to P&G for caring about the environment, working towards sustainability, taking steps to lower the number of carbon emissions used and creating eco-boxes. All of this is great news for the environment.

The second Proctor and Gamble initiative is from their oral care department. By filling out a form found on the internet, you receive a postage paid UPS label. The label can be applied to a box or padded envelope containing discarded toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and caps, empty dental floss containers and some additional oral care products. Accordingly, the P&G program urges consumers to collect a large number of items before using the mailing label. I was happy to find these easy solutions to some difficult to recycle items and hope maybe you can use these tips.

I definitely will use these tips and so will many readers. Crest & Oral B, which are part of P&G, are sponsors of the Recycle on Us program. They have also created a new “Chic Toothbrush” that uses 60% less plastic. According to their website, https://recycling.oralb.com/#less_waste, “they will organize, sanitize, and recycle it all for you – giving recycled plastics entirely new life. That’s more school benches, new bottles, and even clothes!” In order to have a collection point for these toothbrushes, floss containers, toothpaste tubes and any other oral care products, the Recycle Center is designing a container that soon will be available. Please begin saving these oral care items now.

I want to recycle a large number of manila file folders and those larger brown folders that hold the file folders. Which place do I deposit them? Cardboard? Thanks.

Manila file folders can be recycled with either office paper or cardboard. The large brown folder can be recycled just with cardboard. Be sure to remove any plastic latches or elastic bands that may be attached to them before placing them in the recycle bin.
