The “History of 4-H in Greenbrier County: the First 100 Years” has sold out of the first printing and the second printing of the book by James E. Johnson of Alderson is now available.
“We have been very pleased with the acceptance of the history,” Johnson noted. “The printing of a second addition allowed us to add one full page of photos that came in too late for the first edition, plus a poem about Greenbrier that was inadvertently left out of the first edition.”
Proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Greenbrier County 4-H All Stars and the Greenbrier County 4-H Foundation, both of which provide financial and adult leadership for the Greenbrier County 4-H program.
“The second edition books are available on a first come, first served basis through the West Virginia University Extension Center on US 219 South in Fairlea or may be ordered by including a check made out to the Greenbrier County 4-H All Stars at Box 586, Lewisburg, 24901. Cost of the book is $25 with a $5 charge for mailing and handling.
A few copies of the history may also be found at Gillespie Brothers Fine Antiques and Gifts on Main Street, White Sulphur Springs, and the Open Book on Washington Street in Lewisburg.
The author was a 4-H member and as an adult, a 4-H agent for Greenbrier County and continues in his retirement to support the 4-H program through his work as a member of the Greenbrier County 4-H All Stars and other community and county organizations in which he is active.
